Alchemy Print Studio is operated by printmaker and educator Hanah Williams. She delivers engaging printmaking workshops and courses for adults, youth, and children across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

Hanah specialises in eco-aware etching and intaglio printmaking, offering practical, accessible instruction that empowers you to establish your own at-home etching practice using readily available, environmentally friendly materials.

Printmaking for the Classroom

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore a range of printmaking processes suitable for the classroom. Using found and recycled materials, you’ll experiment with techniques to create a collection of unique prints, both with and without the use of a printmaking press. This session is designed to inspire creative, sustainable, and accessible printmaking practices that can be easily adapted for any teaching environment. 


Etching with Eco-Friendly Resists
Level: Beginner

In this hands-on printmaking workshop for beginners, learn how to design and print an image etched into metal onto paper. You will learn how to use a range of eco-aware etching resists to achieve graphic and painterly marks, text, and strong positive and negative imagery. You will take home a collection of prints on cotton paper, an aluminium etching plate, an etching needle and the skills to continue etching in your own studio. This workshop is eco-friendly and uses the latest research in printmaking processes.​

Printmaking for Beginners Short Course (5wks)

In this hands-on short course, you will be introduced to a range of printmaking techniques including linocut, monoprint and drypoint printmaking. Learn how to design, carve and print your own lino block onto fabric and paper, etch a drypoint image and print with a range of found and botanical textures. You will learn how to print by hand and with a press, learn how to use a range of printing processes and go home with the skills to continue printing in your own space. All printmaking tools and materials are included in the cost of the course. 



Stamping on Fabric & Paper 
Level: Beginner  
Date: Tuesday 31st March

In this hands-on workshop for beginners, learn how to carve and print your own unique design onto a tote bag. Embracing colour and pattern, you will develop a collection of prints on paper and fabric, take home your own custom 'stamp', a set of carving tools, and the skills to continue carving and printing at home. All printmaking materials are included in the cost of the workshop.

Botanical Etching

In this hands-on workshop for beginners, learn how to design and print an image etched into metal onto paper. Using a range of etching techniques, you will create an etching utilising fine lines and texture. Discover the possibilities that etching has and how it can be used in your own practice. You will take home a collection of prints on cotton paper, an etching plate, and the skills to continue etching in your own studio. Etching with Resists

Linocut Printmaking (5 week course)
Level: Beginner to intermediate 
Dates: Mondays 27th April to 25th May
Time: 6pm to 9pm

In this hands-on short course, you will learn how to push your linocut and relief printmaking skills further through large format, multi-block, and coloured printing processes. Working with Japanese and Italian printing papers, you will learn how to resolve an edition of prints and use a range of printing techniques including hand printing, using a printing press, chine colle and relief rolls. This course is ideal for anyone wanting to learn new relief printmaking skills or requires guidance with a linocut or woodcut project in mind!
All printmaking materials and equipment will be provided, including tools, lino, printmaking paper and a full spectrum of relief printing inks.





MAY

Intro to Etching (3 week course)
Level: Beginner to intermediate 
Dates: Saturdays 2 May to 16th of May (3x full days)

Discover the magic of etching and intaglio printmaking in this hands-on course designed for beginners. You’ll be introduced to drypoint printmaking using acrylic and recycled materials, as well as hard ground line etching and resist etching techniques on aluminium. Throughout the course, you’ll explore a range of intaglio printing processes while learning how to work safely and confidently. You'll take home a collection of prints along with the skills and knowledge to continue etching in your own studio.

This course uses eco-aware, safer printmaking processes and materials. All printmaking materials and equipment are included in the course fee. *Allergens: Please note that the inks used in this course contain linseed oil 




Linocut Printmaking onto Textiles
Level: Beginner to intermediate 
Dates: Sunday 24th May
Time: 10am to 2pm

Learn how to design, carve and print your own lino block patterns and illustrations onto paper and fabric in this hands-on workshop led by highly-qualified printmaking artist and educator Hanah Williams.

Participants will be guided through the process of sketching and preparing their designs, carving their composition out of an Ezy Carve block using a range of techniques, and how to print by hand onto both paper and fabric, experimenting with different coloured inks and repeat-pattern printing.
All printmaking tools and materials will be supplied. You'll be provided with individual calico squares and a tote bag for printing; participants are encouraged to bring along any additional fabric or paper items they wish to print on, as well as reference images for inspiration if desired. 
Students will take home a collection of finished prints on fabric and paper, their own printed tote bag, carved lino blocks, their own set of carving tools and the skills required to continue printing at home.
